Furthermore, each tribute carries a pistol and a bow as standard equipment. These can be supplemented with items that provide an additional 12 units of load. The pistol and bow are not disposable.
Once the load capacity is exceeded, 1 point of energy is lost with each action performed. This means that doubling actions like picking up subtracts 2 points, even without any boost. To lighten the load, you must use items (if they are consumable), dismantle them, synthesize them, throw them, give them away, or wait for them to be stolen.
Each material and crafted item has a specific load associated with it, which can be found in the following table.

A standard tribute, for example, could only carry a sword, a shield, and medicine, or four arrows, or a scythe and a replicator, since all those combinations total 12 carry weight.
